Herding Activities

Pendulum and Pursuit Workshop

These fun days are for you if you suspect that your relationship with your dog is affected by struggles over control. Have fun finding out how much self-control EACH of you REALLY has. Your expectations pleasantly and gently challenged in a safe, supportive and experienced environment. All training is evidence based.

We have fun as people develop self-control, recognise in depth the effects of their own behaviour as an effective means to create a canine performance. Most of the exercises are based on the shepherding footprints of traditional sheep herding (no sheep are present).

People are often surprised to discover that this includes tracking. Tracking is always included with herding games and an introduction is incorporated in the day.

Majoring initially on learning the necessary gestural cues and incorporation of affection as an effective reinforcer 'in the field' these days are both enormously rewarding and revealing about developing relationships between dogs and their people.

Dogs LOVE these exercises and the style of communication that you will learn.  Their feedback on this point is remarkable and wonderful. The workshop is delivered in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Dogs that might struggle in some training environments are welcomed and generally flourish both with this unique material and within the environment at Verity Farm.

People who have attended before tell stories about a wide range of day to day applications for the exercises and responses that they have developed between themselves and their dogs.

In short, herding games and tracking made day to day life better for them and their dogs.
